Know your almond
Four varieties dominate the Indian market. Here is how a genuine Iranian Mamra compares — and how to spot one.
The verdict: A genuine Mamra is never shiny — the matte, wrinkled kernel is the signature of an untreated almond.
From the heritage orchards of Iran
Mamra almond trees are rain-fed, never irrigated — the trees work harder, the yield is smaller, and the kernel grows denser and richer in oil. Each harvest is cracked and graded by hand, then sealed into airtight paper tubes at origin so the natural oils never oxidise on a warehouse shelf. No polish, no chemicals, no shine that nature didn't put there.

Before you order
What makes Mamra almonds different from regular almonds?
Mamra almonds (mamra badam) are a rare, rain-fed variety from Iran with up to 50% natural oil content — nearly double that of California almonds. They are denser, naturally sweeter, and never chemically treated, which is why they cost more and why they have been the gifting and wellness standard in India for generations.
How do I check if my Mamra badam is genuine?
A genuine Mamra kernel is concave with deep ridges and a matte, wrinkled surface — never shiny or uniform. Press one between your fingers: the natural oil should leave a slight sheen. Polished, glossy or perfectly identical kernels are usually California almonds sold as Mamra.
How many Mamra almonds should I eat daily — soaked or raw?
The traditional portion is 20–25 almonds a day. Soaking overnight and peeling makes them easier to digest and is the classic Indian morning ritual; raw works equally well as a snack. Consistency matters more than quantity.
Why are Mamra almonds more expensive than California almonds?
Mamra trees are rain-fed and low-yield, the crop is less than 4% of world supply, and every kernel is cracked and graded by hand. You are paying for scarcity and nutrition density — not packaging.
How should I store the tube after opening?
Keep the tube sealed, cool and away from direct sunlight. The airtight paper tube is designed to protect the natural oils from oxidising — stored well, freshness holds for up to 9 months. Refrigerate in hot and humid climates.
Do you ship Mamra almonds across India?
Yes — we ship pan-India, typically delivering within 4–6 working days. Every order leaves our facility vacuum-fresh, sealed at origin in Srinagar.
